MRI Motorsports recently joined the North East Modified Series.
As part of the North East Modified Series, MRI Motorsports now has a full time schedule for the 31 car and a limited schedule with the 14 car. MRI Motorsports developmental driver Dan Speeney (younger brother of Mike Speeney) will run the entire tour preparing for the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified tour in future years. The North East Modified Series is a new series in 2011 that will run in the Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York area. This new series is a modified series that will not run the usual tour type modifieds. Instead this series will run a more cost effective modified called a sport modified. These modifieds have 425 to 500 horse power and have 13 inch rims instead of the wide 15 inch the tour type modifieds run. MRI Motorsports is excited to join this series and help it get off the ground. For more information about this new tour go to the North East Modified Series page at www.nemodified.com
First Weekend Ups and Downs.
MRI Motorsports competed in their first NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified tour race at Caraway Speedway in the Spring Classic 150. MRI Motorsports quickly encountered an issue that would hinder them the entire weekend and cause the car to handle very poorly. Bruce Hillemann the crew chief of the 80 car talked to Hoosier tire this week and found out why the tires were so off. The tires that were given to MRI to run this weekend were from two different batches. Usually this isnít a big deal but the two batches were drastically different. The right side tires were old tires from last year that sat over winter which lost grip and the sizing was different from the newer batch which the left side tires came from. Besides the tires the weekend went well for MRI Motorsports. Mike Speeney the driver of MRI Motorsports #80 car finished 16th after starting 22nd. MRI Motorsports is looking forward to the next race at Caraway Speedway for the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified tour on March 26th. MRI Motorsports driver Mike Speeney said that he has no doubt that they will be quick in the next race knowing that they have their tire situation figured out.
